US Drug Use Is On The Rise

Recently a survey on drug use in America was completed by the Substance Abuse And Mental Health Services Administration.

With regards to methamphetamines, the number of users over the age of 12 has been reduced by over half between the 4 years of 2006 to 2010. It was a whopping 731,000 users back then and as of 2010 only 353,000. It appears therefore that methamphetamine is falling out of vogue as it was extremely popular in the early 2000′s.

All was not so great with the survey however. For people over the age of 12 in America, the results showed 22.6 million illicit drug users in America which is an increased number from 2008. Over 50% of prescription narcotic drug users received them from a friend or relative who gave the drugs to them for non-medical use.

Illicit drug use between ages of 18 to 25 actually rose about 1.5%. Marijuana was the predominant reason for this increase. Marijuana use in America has asked you risen a little over 1%. Slightly over 17 million people use it, however the survey did not explain exactly how many of those users are medical marijuana patients and use it for a debilitating issue.

If there’s going to be a rise in an illicit drug, marijuana is the least want to worry about. 16 states plus the District of Columbia have now approved it for medicinal use, and there are 10 to 12 more states are on the way to doing so. A whopping 80% of the United States approves of medical marijuana.

The use of cocaine went down by 40% between the years 2006 to 2010. Teen drinking also went down by 1% between the years 2009 to 2010.

There are certain encouraging trends in the survey, such as the significant drops in cocaine and methamphetamines along with less teenage alcohol use. Interestingly, there are over 20 million Americans who need help with substance abuse, but only around 10% to actually get the help they need.

There are great treatments available for substance abuse. Blood drug users denied a problem and do not see it Israel which can be detrimental to their long-term health obviously period people tend to think of prescription medicines is not a problem because it was actually a doctor who wrote for their description.

If that’s the situation that happened prescription medication be harmful? Well they are if abused and thankfully rehab centers and United States have less of a stigma than ever. Hopefully more individuals will utilize these options and get their lives back on track.
